The line from Ann Rice's novel, Interview with a Vampire, comes to mind whenever the subject of a talking about myself comes up. Louis de Pointe du Lac, the vampire, responds with, "Shall we begin like David Copperfield? 'I am born...I grew up.' Or shall we begin when I was born to darkness, as I call it?" I, clearly, am not this cool or remotely that dark.
I, however, like Louis had a dark moment which would affect the way I viewed life and guide me to what paths I would take in the years to come. It is because of the loss of one of these family members to diabetes, a disease all to common to El Paso, that propels to learn and help others. I strongly believe in education and it's power to change the world for the better. I often wonder what wonderful things would come if we, as a race, would set aside all our differences and share our collected knowledge to solve all our problems. Wouldn't that be something...
